Teton County Wyoming Sheriff’s deputies responded to an early morning report of an off-road ATV accident in the Gunsite Ranch area of the Gros Ventre Friday. The reporting party told dispatchers the accident had occurred after midnight and that one male was deceased at the scene. Initial Investigation revealed that three Gunsite Ranch employees were riding on two separate off-road vehicles in a closed area of Cottonwood Creek when they became separated. After realizing they were lost, two riders sharing one ATV began looking for their companion and found him two hours later deceased laying face down in a creek. Undersheriff Bob Gilliam says apparently, 39 year old Scott Lilley had descended a steep hill which caused him to lose control of the ATV. Lilley was ejected from the ATV and landed in the creek bed, where he is believed to have struck a large boulder in the creek bed sustaining massive head injuries. Gilliam says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident. An investigation of the incident is ongoing.
