South Entrance Opens

S. Entrance

The South Entrance to Yellowstone National Park opens for the season today as originally scheduled, thanks to funds to pay for the plowing being raised by Jackson area tourism interests. As of 8:00 am, visitors will be able to travel through the South Entrance to Grant Village, West Thumb Junction and on to Fishing Bridge or across Craig Pass to Old Faithful.  Wyoming Governor Matt Mead will be in Yellowstone to sign the National Travel and Tourism Proclamation while paying tribute to the collaborative snowplowing efforts in ensuring Yellowstone National Park opened as scheduled. Inside the park, officials say the road between Canyon and Tower-Roosevelt over Dunraven Pass won’t open to travel until May 24 which is still in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  Due to construction, there will be daytime delays of up to 30 minutes and nightly closures on the section of road between Tower-Roosevelt Junction and Chittenden Road beginning May 28. All other interior park roads are open for the season.

  • I can’t wait for rabbit season - August 21, 2014
There are a lot of hunting seasons just around the corner. The archery antelope and black bear seasons are already under way, and the rifle seasons open for antelope and deer in about a week. Waterfowl season’s quickly approaching, too, and upland birds will be fair game before we know it. But this year, the […]
  • Mainly Isolated Thunderstorms Possible Today - August 20, 2014
A passing weather system will combine with monsoonal moisture to trigger shower and thunderstorm activity throughout the state today.  Shower and thunderstorm activity will be likely across the western, northern and southern mountain areas (and higher terrain), while mainly isolated thunderstorms will be possible throughout eastern Wyoming.  However, any storms that do develop have the […]
