Parking Enforcement Stepped Up

ParkingTicket

The time of year has arrived with enforcement is being stepped up for parking limitations in downtown Jackson; especially the three-hour limits.  Police Lieutenant Cole Nethercott explains that the goal of the ordinance is to encourage the turnover of parking spaces for the convenience of downtown shoppers.  Nethercott explains there is a limited amount of parking downtown, so the restricted time is intended to open the parking to more people through the day as they access the shops there.  Nethercott says business owners are asked to encourage their employees to park outside the area where the restrictions apply which is primarily the core downtown area. The restrictions extend within a couple blocks of the square – farther out on some streets than on others.  Nethercott says specifically, motorists will find those restrictions on Broadway, Cache, Center and Doloney.  Nethercott urges those who will be in the downtown area for longer than three hours to park in the public parking lots, walk or bike into downtown, or take the START bus.
