Two lawsuits brought against the operator of Jackson’s air traffic control service being sought by the former wife of the pilot killed in the crash of his plane in 2010 and by the deceased pilot’s estate are apparently headed for mediation.  41-year-old Luke Bucklin died along with his three sons, 14-year olds Nick and Nate and 12 year-old Noah when the plane he was flying crashed in the Wind River Mountains near Gannett Peak.  The lawsuits claim the air traffic controller provided a flight path over the mountains with insufficient altitude.  The lawsuits name Serco Inc., the Virginia-based company that provides air traffic control services at the Jackson Hole Airport.  That company denies blame in the crash.  Radio transmissions from Bucklin just before the crash suggest that he encountered downdrafts known as Mountain waves which forced him down at about 11,000 feet in the Wind River Mountains on October 25th, 2010.

Monday night, or more accurately early Tuesday morning, there was a total lunar eclipse. And being the experienced nature photographer I am, you’d think I was ready with my camera. But you’d be wrong. The last total lunar eclipse visible in Wyoming was way back in 2009, if I’m not mistaken. So I’ve been looking […]

  • Back to normal at the trap range - April 17, 2014
By some strange luck, I shot really well last week in our trap league. But last night, I didn’t do so well. Not even close. The thing about shooting trap is that you’re bound to have good rounds once in a while. Those good nights give you hope that you’re improving. For some people, that […]
