Biking Responsibility Urged

Planning on biking some of the popular trails now that that season has finally arrived?  Friends of Pathways has come out with a statement urging dirt bike riders not to ride through mud or muddy spots as they head out to enjoy the spring weather.  The organization points out that, riding on mud wrecks the tread on the trail by leaving ruts that dry into hard bumps.  This in turn, contributes to erosion and creates un-ridable, hard to fix trail surfaces.  If you see that they are too wet, says the organization, dismount your bike, push your bike through the mud spot, and walk on the edge of the trail.  All in all, Friends of Pathways writes, “Warm weather during spring and fall is especially critical for trails.”

  • Don’t lose your vision in the woods - October 21, 2014
I don’t have good eyes. Had I been born a hundred years ago, there would have been no help for me. Glasses can’t help me, so I’d have blind. I have to wear a special kind of contact lens, which wasn’t available in the days of Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone. But through the miracle […]
  • Hunters must be conservationists first - October 20, 2014
As hunters, it’s our responsibility to take care of the critters we hunt, as well as those we don’t. We have to obey the game laws. Police ourselves to be sure others respect the wildlife. And even offer suggestions to the Game and Fish Commission when we think there are better ways to ensure that […]
