Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board has announced that the first speaker in the summer-long “SHIFT Speaks” series is to be Juan Martinez, director of the Natural Leaders Network of the Children & Nature Network. SHIFT was commissioned earlier this year by the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Joint Powers Board as an annual event with a triple bottom line: to boost the area’s economy in October while also bringing value to the community and the environment in which it exists. As a lead-in to the upcoming festival, Martinez will speak next month about grassroots campaigns that foster healthy communities, curb nature deficit disorder, and create garden space.  Martinez’ passion to empower individuals and youth led him to direct the Sierra Club’s first environmental justice youth leadership academy in Los Angeles. He is also a National Geographic Emerging Explorer.
