A heavy rainstorm and mudslide closed US Highway 89 north of Yellowstone for a time last night. According to reports, four to ten feet of mud and debris covered the roadway 16 miles north of Gardiner, Montana causing the road to be closed for several hours. It was reopened shortly after 6:00 am this morning. Park County, Montana officials also reported flooding and other slides in that area. The National Weather Service had issued warnings for heavy rains and high winds earlier in the evening in that area and parts of Yellowstone. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are again forecast in that region today.
