Negotiations are under way between Teton County Idaho’s fire protection district and Teton County Wyoming for the continuation of fire protection of the Alta, Wyoming area out of the Driggs firehouse. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Chief Willie Watsabaugh says the contract that is being renegotiated was originally drafted in 1991. He says the county is working hard to understand exactly what the needs of Teton County Fire Protection District are in terms of providing fire protection for the Teton County residents in the Alta area. Watsabaugh says the bottom line, however is that there will be fire protection in place for the community following the September 30th deadline. Teton County, Idaho officials say the cost of providing the service in Wyoming is higher than what it was in 1991 and adjustments need to be made.
