There will be more hunters in the field in Wyoming this year than seen in previous years. Applications for overall licenses in Wyoming this spring increased 5.5 percent from last year and 12.8 percent from three years ago.
The initial application period took place in May, and Wyoming Game and Fish says any licenses that weren’t allocated in the initial draw were available for hunters in a leftover draw, which closed June 28th.
Game and Fish changed the leftover license allocation process from a first-come, first-serve system to a second, random draw. Unlike in the initial draw, both residents and nonresidents had the same opportunity in the leftover draw for available licenses.
Even with that, Game and Fish says there are still leftover big game licenses available for resident and nonresident hunters and residents also can buy over-the-counter general elk and deer licenses.
The most increases for applications this year were for doe/fawn deer and antelope with an 11.2 percent and 12.5 percent increase, respectively.
