Woman Rescued From Blacktail Butte

GTNP Rescue

Grand Teton National Park’s rescue team was called to assist a New York woman who had become injured while hiking Blacktail Butte with a companion Saturday evening.  Park Spokesperson Jackie Skaggs says just before 6:00 pm, 53 year-old Claude Belloit took a slight misstep on a rocky trail up the butte and seriously injured her ankle. After receiving the call through Teton County Interagency Dispatch, a park ranger drove from the Jenny Lake ranger station and hiked up the Blacktail Butte trail to meet Belliot, assess her injury and make arrangements for a ground-based rescue via wheeled litter.  Additional park staff was summoned to assist in the rescue, and employees from the park’s vegetation management crew, staff from Teton Interagency Fire, and additional rangers from the Gros Ventre sub district helped carry Belloit to a waiting ambulance for transport to St. John’s Medical Center.
