Local Firefighters Head To Fires Elsewhere

While wildfires in the Greater Yellowstone area have been fairly manageable this year for the most part, that has not been the case elsewhere in the Eastern Great Basin Geographic Area.  That is the fire coordination that encompasses this area as well as other forests and grasslands to the west.  In fact, considering the severity of the fires currently burning and the demands currently being placed on personnel and equipment in the region, the preparedness level in the region has been raised to “5” which is the highest demand level for resources.  Bridger-Teton National Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek says firefighters and equipment from the Greater Yellowstone area are now being sent where they are more needed.  She says the Boise and the Payette areas are experiencing more fire while the fires here have been relatively small and firefighters have been extremely successful in suppressing them. Still, Cernicek assures that ample resources are retained in the area to address any immediate response that may be needed should a fire break out locally. Large fires and fire complexes burning elsewhere in the region currently account for a total of about 190-thousand acres.  Meanwhile, Yellowstone National Park has elevated its fire rating to “very high.”

  • Be ready for bumps, scrapes, cuts and more - October 30, 2014
Being prepared for the worst is never a bad idea. However, if you carry everything you might need for any emergency, you won’t have room for your tent or sleeping bag. A first aid kit needs to be light and compact, or it’ll be one of the first things you toss out of the pack […]
  • Cowboy Running Back Ready For His New Role [AUDIO] - October 29, 2014
Wyoming freshman running back Brian Hill figured he would get some carries this season.  And in week one, Hill was able to put in a couple of key runs in a win over Montana.  But for the most part, it’s been spot time for the first-year Cowboys.  But, with injuries to D.J. May and now […]
