Hiker Rescued Above Teton Village

TCSAR

Members of Teton County Search and Rescue Team were called Wednesday to aid a hiker above Teton Village who had fallen and hit his head.  Undersheriff Bob Gilliam says 20 year-old Zachery Carnes of Glen Carbon, Illinois had been hiking the Rock Springs Trail above the chairlift when the accident occurred.  Gilliam says his hiking companion called 911 about 7:00 pm and members of the search and rescue team hiked to the scene.  A team physician assessed Carnes’ injuries and provided initial treatment while a helicopter from Air Idaho was summoned.  Gilliam says the decision to airlift Carnes out was made because the terrain where the accident occurred was too difficult to perform an evacuation with either a litter or other ground-based system.  Carnes was flown from the scene directly to St. John’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
