Grand Teton National Park rangers recovered the body of 40 year-old Edward Tom of Boulder Colorado Saturday. Park Spokesperson Jenny Anzelmo-Sarles says Tom fell to his death Friday evening in Garnet Canyon while scouting for a campsite following a storm with heavy rain and hail. She says Tom and his climbing partner intended to spend Friday night at a backcountry camping area known as the Petzoldt Caves before climbing the Grand Teton on Saturday.  Multiple 911 calls were received just before 6:00 pm Friday to report Tom had fallen nearly 100 feet and who was unconscious when bystanders got to him. Sarles says two physicians who were in the area rappelled to Tom and attempted to revive him. Due to lingering weather and fading light rangers who had also responded to the scene determined they would need to complete the recovery operation the following day.  Sarles says the incident remains under investigation and no additional details are available at this time.

  • Towing with a half-ton - July 31, 2014
I’ve been hauling horses with either a three-quarter-ton or a one-ton truck for about the past 10 years, and I’ve gotten kind of spoiled by the towing power of those old Ford diesels. Even with a heavy load cruising along behind me, I’d sometimes forget I was pulling a trailer. But when the F-350 started […]
