Teton County rescue personnel were called to the Flat Creek Ranch northeast of Jackson Tuesday afternoon after a horseback riding accident about 2:20 pm.  Teton County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Bob Gilliam says 51 year-old Loretta Michaels of Washington D.C. went over the top of the horse and sustained a head injury.  The ranch employees provided first aid at the scene but believed her condition to be serious enough to call for assistance.  Gilliam says the county search and rescue team was mobilized and the interagency helicopter flew in with one of the search and rescue doctors and after initial treatment, they flew her to St. John’s Hospital. Gilliam praises the care ranch employees gave to the woman immediately after the accident and while they were waiting for medical care to arrive.  He says Michaels was admitted to St. John’s Medical Center where her condition remains stable.
