Rains Cool Yellowstone Fires

While copious amounts of rain have caused some headaches for parts of Wyoming, the rain has had its benefits in Yellowstone National Park where several wildfires have been burning since August.  Park Spokesman Al Nash says as might be expected, the rain has been serving to cool many of those fires. He says the fires in the central and southern parts of the park have been fairly quite in recent days.  He says while the park is not ready to call them out, they’re not really active either. One of the most prominent fires in the park has been the Alum Fire which approached the Grand Loop Road forcing its closure for a brief time.  That fire, Nash says, has also cooled. He says there are still a handful of people managing those fires.  Meanwhile, he says the Druid fire near the Northeast Entrance road continues to put up some smoke on warm, sunny afternoons. Fires constituting the Minor Paradise Complex north of Yellowstone in Park County, Montana have shown little or no fire activity in the last few days and fire officials say a local forest service team has taken over their management
