A half-acre fire has been found just east of Yellowstone Lake, forcing the closure of a Brimstone Bay campsite year Thoroughfare Trail. Fire officials say the Brimstone Fire was lightning-caused. Since the fire activity is low, fire staff will monitor the natural fire for its resource benefits. At this time, Thoroughfare Trail remains open, but park officials urge hikers planning to use the trail to check the current status of the trail at backcountry situation report at the Yellowstone Park website. Currently there are four active fires being monitored in Yellowstone with four others now considered out.
