Forest Users Should Be Rain Wary

usfs

While northwestern Wyoming has not experienced the kind of severe weather seen in Colorado recently, Bridger-Teton National Forest and Bureau of Land Management’s High Desert District are encouraging visitors to take extra precautions while recreating on public lands in light of all of the recent rain. Above all else, says Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek, visitors should make safety a top priority. She says, “We are encouraging folks to be very careful when they venture out onto the forest, and to be aware of their surroundings, of the changing weather conditions, pay attention to any creeks or streams that they cross that could flood or be a little bit different when they come out later in the afternoon.”  Cernicek says know where to seek higher ground in the event of an emergency, and plan an escape route ahead of time in case some roads and trails become damaged, destroyed, or blocked by debris. Cernicek adds that it is strongly recommended that motorized vehicles be operated at slower speeds, and drivers are watchful for damaged or washed-out roads.
