Slushy to icy roads greeted drivers on their morning commute in Jackson today as the first significant winter storm blustered its way through the region. Teton Pass was posted with the chain law restriction while the Wyoming Department of Transportation advised no unnecessary travel on Togwotee Pass for much of the night and early morning hours. However, areas east of the divide in Wyoming were hardest hit with blowing and drifting snow, high winds and limited visibility reported in the vicinities of Dubois, Lander, Thermopolis, Cody and points in between; and while Yellowstone is closed for the federal shut-down, some areas of the park reported up to a foot of snow. The Beartooth Highway just outside the park remains closed. Fortunately, it is a fast moving storm, and the National Weather Service calls for conditions to moderate by tonight.
