Scott Says Not All Turnouts Were Closed

Grand Teton National Park Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott says contrary to reports of all the turnouts along US Highway 191 past the Tetons being barricaded; only selected parking areas were closed.  That, she said, had to do with adjacent trailheads.  She says there were a few turnouts that were closed because (in her words)  “they provide access recreational and primarily backcountry access; so they were methods of controlling the perimeter and preventing people from getting into the back country… so not all turnouts were closed.” Now that the national park has reopened, the annual elk reduction hunt on the east side of the park opened on schedule Saturday.  Hunting in that area will conclude in early December.
