While roads in Yellowstone National Park reopened after the 16-day government shut-down ended Thursday, the Beartooth Highway just outside the park did not. That road closed for the season prior to its scheduled closure date October 15th. Visitors and area residents may still travel between Red Lodge and Cooke City, Silver Gate, and Yellowstone’s Northeast Entrance by way of Wyoming Highway 296. Inside Yellowstone, the section of the Grand Loop Highway between Tower Junction and Canyon over Dunraven Pass has also closed for the season. Travelers into the park are urged to be ready for weather changes and the possible associated road closures. Additionally, Park Spokesman Al Nash says at a time there are limited services in the park, there are even fewer following the 16-day closure; so visitors need to be much more self-sufficient.
