An unusually early season avalanche left a Jackson woman with a leg injury Friday afternoon, requiring evacuation from the Togwotee Pass area. According to Bob Gilliam of the Teton County Sheriff’s office, 29 year-old Laura Krusheski had been skiing with two male companions about three miles east of Togwotee Mountain Lodge in the vicinity of Breccia Peak when the mountainside avalanched, catching Krusheski in its path. The slide, measuring about 120 feet wide by 300 feet long and two feet deep was one of a series of three progressive slides off the mountain. Gilliam says a call for help was made by some nearby snowmobilers about 4:15 pm, and the county contract helicopter was dispatched to pick up the injured skier while risking less exposure to other rescuers. Krusheski was transported to the Black Rock Ranger Station and a waiting ambulance which transported her to St. John’s Medical Center for treatment.
