The biking season north of Jackson is over. The North Pathway between the Town of Jackson and Moose is closed each year between November first and April 30th under the agreement with the National Elk Refuge in order to reduce potential impacts to migrating elk and other wildlife who also use that corridor to travel to and from the Refuge. At first, the National Elk Refuge had set October first as the closure date for the pathway, but revised it by one month this year after analyzing three years of data indicating when wildlife was in that area. County maintenance crews have now placed barriers at intervals along the entire length of the pathway to discourage cyclists and pedestrians from using the pathway during the elk migration season. Violators of the closure are subject to citation for trespassing, fines, and possible Federal prosecution.
