Teton Valley Man Hurt in Weekend Avalanche

avalanche danger

A 32 year-old Teton Valley man suffered a leg injury when he was caught in an avalanche while skiing in the area of Jackson Peak Sunday.  Scott Dixon was skiing with three companions when the four apparently triggered the slide on the west face of Jackson Peak.  Responding to a 911 call, members of Teton County Search and Rescue were transported to the scene aboard the county’s contract helicopter and rendered initial treatment to Dixon.  Then, as it was becoming dark, the EIRMC helicopter, which has authority to fly at night, was dispatched to the scene and transported Dixon to St. John’s Medical Center for Treatment.   This marks the second avalanche injury in a little over a week in Teton County.  29 year-old Laura Kruscheski also suffered a leg injury when an avalanche ran on Togwotee Pass Friday, November first.

  • Let the Christmas hints begin - November 28, 2014
My little sprouts are already getting ramped up for Christmas. They still don’t quite have the whole idea of the Christmas season, but they’re definitely into the presents. I was a little fella once, and I remember counting down the days until December 25th. There were no visions of sugarplums, but pocket knives, snowshoes, shotguns […]

However, because this is a program about the outdoors, I’ll just talk about the things in the outdoors I’m thankful for. There’s plenty of it. Especially here in Wyoming. We’ve got […]
  • Pelts are nearing prime conditions - November 26, 2014
The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. It’s the amount of daylight, and not the temperature, that causes wild animals to grow longer, thicker coats. If you’re a predator hunter or a trapper, that’s your cue. The pelts are coming into their prime right now, but that doesn’t mean they’re at […]
  • Very Windy in Many Areas, Developing Light to Moderate Snow - November 25, 2014
The I-25 and I-80 corridors and adjacent roads throughout central, eastern and southern Wyoming will see very strong and gusty winds today.  Sustained winds of 25 to 40 mph likely for many areas with gusts to 60 mph or higher in the wind prone locations. Light to moderate snow shower activity will also be increasing […]
