St. John’s Medical Center Monday signs an affiliation agreement with the University of Utah Health Care Center which will enhance the coordination of resources between the two facilities.  St. John’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Lou Hochheiser says St. John’s Patients have long benefited from Services provided by the university hospital and clinics, but this will providemore direct access to those resources. He says this allows the hospital staff to be followed effectively by people who have specialties that the local hospital is not big enough to maintain providers all the time.  He says this also saves people from traveling to Salt Lake City. Dr. Hochheiser says the affiliation will step up availability of care in such areas as neurology, cognitive health, prenatal care, burns, and cancer.  He says the University facility has many awards in terms of quality, and they’re willing to share their expertise.  He says that way “we don’t have to reinvent the wheel, but can offer out community higher quality.” Dr. Hochheiser says as an added benefit, as St. John’s physicians retire or move on, the ties to University of Utah Health Care Center provides an added attraction to recruit high quality professionals.  The public is invited to a signing ceremony to formalize the agreement and celebration taking place in the St. John’s lobby Monday at 11:30 am.

  • Hunters must be conservationists first - October 20, 2014
As hunters, it’s our responsibility to take care of the critters we hunt, as well as those we don’t. We have to obey the game laws. Police ourselves to be sure others respect the wildlife. And even offer suggestions to the Game and Fish Commission when we think there are better ways to ensure that […]

  • Wish list season is upon us again - October 17, 2014
Late October is a bad time of year for me. If I were independently wealthy, it wouldn’t be so bad. But I’m not. I’m a journalist, so it’s a little painful. It’s rough because this is when the Christmas catalogs start hitting the mailbox, and they’re chock-full of gear I wish I had. From the […]
