Problems at the Jackson/Teton County Recreation Center have at last been temporarily resolved and the gymnasium there has been reopened. The gym had been closed after the structure that holds the solar array on the Rec Center gym roof failed, causing the structure to come to rest directly on the roof. Steel rods from that structure punctured the roof membrane, creating leaks into the gym. For now, that structure has been shored up and raised, putting the weight of the structure directly onto the roof. County officials say this is only a temporary solution while a new steel structure for the solar array to rest on is designed and fabricated. Contracts for the engineering and design of a new structure will be presented for the County Commission to consider Monday and a permanent repair will be made in the months ahead. Meanwhile, County Spokesperson Charlotte Reynolds says repairs to minor damage to the gym floor has been made and the facility is again available.
