St. John’s Medical Center has established a new support group for cancer patients and survivors. Facilitated by social worker Sharon Walls and cancer survivor Carol Poole, the support group is open to all cancer survivors, cancer patients, caregivers, and family members. The cancer support group provides the opportunity to network with other survivors and caregivers. Participation in such support groups offers many benefits, increased sense of empowerment and control, better coping skills, a clearer understanding of what to expect, and reduced loneliness, depression, and anxiety. Meetings are held monthly on the first and third Thursday afternoon at the hospital.
