GTNP Inks Agreement With Teton County Parks

Park Road Skiing

Grand Teton National Park has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Teton County to provide regular grooming for Nordic and skate skiing along the Teton Park Road in partnership with the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. As an extension of community grooming activities outside the park, Park Spokesperson Jackie Skaggs says Teton County has agreed to pilot a program to groom 15 miles of the snow-covered Teton Park Road between Taggart Lake trailhead and Signal Mountain Lodge.  Skaggs says the arrangement is just one more example of the spirit of cooperation the park and the local community enjoy. She says this area is held up as a prime example, or elevated example  nationally of inter-agency cooperation.  She points to the inter-agency dispatch center and intera-gency fire-fighting arrangements with Bridger-Teton National Forest and Teton County as two examples.  Consequently, she says, “We are held to kind of a high example of what can be done.” Skaggs says since 2002, park staff has periodically groomed the snow-covered Teton Park Road whenever time and funding allowed. However, financial and staffing constraints have increasingly constrained the grooming from dependably occurring.

  • A lunar eclipse, and me without my camera - April 18, 2014
Monday night, or more accurately early Tuesday morning, there was a total lunar eclipse. And being the experienced nature photographer I am, you’d think I was ready with my camera. But you’d be wrong. The last total lunar eclipse visible in Wyoming was way back in 2009, if I’m not mistaken. So I’ve been looking […]

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi opened his official campaign headquarters in Cheyenne on Wednesday. Wyoming’s senior senator is seeking his fourth term in the Senate. There were rumors last year that Enzi would retire at the end of his current term and he admits it is something he thought about. “Anytime anybody’s getting ready to go […]
  • Back to normal at the trap range - April 17, 2014
By some strange luck, I shot really well last week in our trap league. But last night, I didn’t do so well. Not even close. The thing about shooting trap is that you’re bound to have good rounds once in a while. Those good nights give you hope that you’re improving. For some people, that […]
