You know it had to happen.  Wyoming has a state bird – the Western Meadowlark, it has a state flower – the Indian Paintbrush, it has a state tree – the Plains Cottonwood, it even has a state dinosaur – the Triceratops.  It was only a matter of time before a bill would be introduced to establish an official state……cookie. The bill is enough to make even the Keebler Elves proud.  Sponsored by Laramie County Representatives Lee Filer and Kenneth Esquibel, and Senator John Hastert, the bill seeks to establish the chocolate chip cookie as the official cookie of Wyoming.  Filer explains that students at Goins Elementary School in Cheyenne wanted to know how a bill becomes law.  With the cookie bill, he says, “The kids will learn how to lobby and testify in committee – which is great to teach them young so they have a better understanding of the process.”  But why a chocolate chip cookie?  Filer explains the students learned from local cookie makers that the chocolate chip cookie is their biggest seller.
