There have been “blue light specials” at the Jackson K-Mart in recent days, but those are on police cars and have nothing to do with sale items at the closed store. Jackson Police have been dispatched to the K-Mart parking lot where they recently issued parking citations to about 30 people for parking on private property. The Jackson Police Department explains that it doesn’t randomly go onto private property to write tickets; but responds when a property owner or manager requests it. In this case, at about 1:21 pm February 29th, police were called to a complaint of multiple people parked in the Kmart parking lot who were not employees or customers. Rather than tow all thirty vehicles, parking enforcement officers were asked to issue parking tickets. Drivers are being advised that if they have been using this lot to store a vehicle long term, or just temporarily to catch the bus, they will have to find another solution. Kmart will be enforcing the, “Customer/Employee Parking Only” and “No Overnight Parking” signs they have posted by having the vehicles towed.
