Wyoming Game and Fish Department is pointing to an individual grizzly bear sow living in the Blackrock area East of Moran for making significant contributions to information needed to manage the species. Large Carnivore Biologist Dan Bjornlie says wildlife personnel have trapped bear 179 eight times and recorded significant information in their journals that has been useful in bear recovery efforts. Additionally, he says information about habitat and highway insights have been recorded from thousands of locations via her radio collar. He adds that 179 has raised 11 cubs to their independence since they began studying her. A variety of other bears have been trapped, numbered and studied as well, but Bjornlie says 179 has been singular among those studies.
