While Jackson Holes gasoline prices remain unchanged, the cost of gasoline nationwide has taken a sharp upturn. Amerine Woodyard of the US Energy Information Administration says the most precipitous increase was in the Gulf Coast region where prices spiked an average of 9.3¢. She says the U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline rose to $3.38 a gallon on Monday — up 7.1¢ from a week ago, based on the weekly price survey by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Closer to home, the average of gasoline prices surveyed in Jackson Hole by Motor Trend now is $3.25 while the average of those prices in Teton Valley is now $3.30 per gallon of unleaded regular. Analyists at AAA Auto Club say the rising national average is common in the springtime due to seasonal factors like rising demand and refinery maintenance prior to the summer season. While they say those prices will continue to rise, they don’t expect the kind of increase seen in recent years.
