Hunting Regs Changing In Teton Valley

The Idaho Fish and Game Department has announced that it is proposing to divide the Teton Zone for elk hunting, moving Unit 62 into the Island Park zone and Unit 65 into the Palisades zone.  The department has scheduled public meetings this week to discuss those and other proposed changes for the coming big game hunting season.  According to Regional Wildlife Manager Daryl Meints, there are not a lot of changes in the region,  but recent mild winters have resulted in increasing mule deer populations for those animals that winter on the Sand Creek Desert.  The most recent population survey was the highest number observed since 2000.  Consequently, he says the number of tags being offered to hunters could be increased substantially.  The public meetings about the proposed changes take place tomorrow in the Idaho Falls Fish and Game office and Thursday in Madison Middle School in Rexburg – both beginning at 7:00 pm.
