The Wyoming Senate yesterday battled over money to place cameras on board school busses intended to catch red light violators. When all was said and done, the legislators did not permit the measure to become an unfunded mandate. The Senate Appropriations Committee had stripped $5-million dollars that had been included for the cameras from the bill with a standing committee amendment. They justified the move saying they wanted to emphasize education of drivers rather than penalties. However, once it reached the floor of the senate, the entire body did not agree with the committee and restored the funding after considerable debate.
