After learning details of the epidemiological follow up completed by the Wyoming Department of Health regarding the COVID-19 case announced Wednesday, March 18, 2020 in Teton County, the Teton County Health Department has been notified there is no identifiable source for the patient’s exposure to COVID-19 at this time. While the case had contact with several visitors who are no longer in the area, the actual source may not be able to be confirmed. At this time, health officials are not considering the case to be community transmission. The definition of community transmission is having more than one case in a community that are not linked to one another.
The follow up and contact tracing for this case is ongoing. As part of the process, people who may have had close contact with a person who tests positive for COVID-19 are identified and contacted by the Wyoming Department of Health. This step is also called contact tracing. Contract tracing is important because it helps to stop transmission of the virus in the community through early identification and prompt quarantine or isolation of potentially exposed individuals. Community members will be notified if it’s determined you were a close contact with the diagnosed COVID-19 positive person. Currently, two family members of the patient are also in quarantine at home.
The Teton County Health Department wants to remind all Teton County residents:
- • To stay home when sick and to avoid contact with others unless you need to seek medical attention. Individuals with a fever, cough or influenza-like illness, regardless of travel history should call the St. John’s Health hotline at 307-739-4898 options 3 for a phone evaluation. If you are having a true medical emergency, please call 911.
