(CHEYENNE) It was an uphill battle, but after hours of hashing over Senate File 39, a conference committee reached unanimous agreement on the provisions for an exchange for land in Grand Teton National Park between the state and the Interior Department. Teton County Senator Leland Christensen, who sponsored the bill, says reaching that agreement was anything but easy. Christensen says there were a number of different rewrites on additional amendments to the basic bill and the discussions kept going back and forth between different interests. However, by the end of the conference, the committee endorsed the bill and its amendments by a 100% vote. The bill then had to go back before each legislative branch to receive concurrence with the agreement forged in the conference committee before passage was complete. Christensen says the agreed amendments amounted more to wording of the bill than any substantive changes.
