(JACKSON) Two of several avalanches over the weekend caught skiers, injuring one to where he had to be flown to safety. The unidentified skier was reportedly with a group of four when the avalanche released in Granite Canyon on a path called Double Dog-leg shortly before 2:00 pm Sunday. A call for help was placed to the Teton County Sheriff’s Department who notified Grand Teton National Park. Rangers and a medical advisor were flown by the Teton County Search and Rescue helicopter to the scene and airlifted a man with serious leg injuries out to a waiting ambulance at Teton Village. Earlier, a snowboarder skiing south of Jackson Hole Ski Resort Saturday was carried over cliffs in the Breckneck area of Bridger Teton National Forest, and completely buried. Companions quickly unburied him and he suffered only minor injuries. Again, no immediate identification of the parties involved was available.
