BTNF Staffers Receive National Awards

Cernicek

(JACKSON, Wyo)  Bridger-Teton National Forest Wild & Scenic Rivers Coordinator, David Cernicek, who instigated a project to prevent owls from becoming trapped in the forest’s vault toilets is to be honored Wednesday during the 2014 Wings Across the Americas Conservation Awards ceremony in Denver, Colorado.  Cernicek forwarded a photo of an owl that had become trapped in the vent of the facility and asked the Teton Raptor Center for help in devising a way to keep the cavity nesters from trying to make homes in the vents. Eventually, a prototype solution was developed and successfully installed across the 3.4-million acre forest. The Bridger-Teton’s Landscape Architect, Bernadette Barthelenghi is also being recognized with this national award.

  • Release ‘em right - July 29, 2014
Each year, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department sends out a reminder of the right way to release fish when you turn them back into the water. Al Langston of the Game and Fish recently sent out that reminder, so I thought I’d pass it along to you. When the water gets warm this time […]
  • Hauling hay makes me consider ATVs - July 28, 2014
In my days in the mountains, I’ve seen some horse wrecks that probably should have turned my hair gray prematurely. I’ve had horses go lame on me deep in the backcountry. And I’ve been awakened in the night to the sound of thundering hooves receding down the trail toward the trailer. None of those situations […]
