(IDAHO FALLS, Ida) The Palisades Ranger District, Caribou-Targhee National Forest is seeking comments on the proposed Rainey Creek Vegetation Restoration Project, located on National Forest lands east of Swan Valley in Bonneville County, Idaho. The proposed actions of thinning juniper stands and use of prescribed fire would occur in the Rainey Creek drainage to address vegetation restoration objectives. Current conditions show a loss of much of the mountain shrub and herbaceous vegetation component which benefits the wildlife that use this as winter range. Vegetation objectives would also address fuel reduction needed within the wildland-urban interface. The Palisades District encourages the public to review the proposal and to express concerns, suggestions, and any new information pertinent to the proposal. Comments will help define the scope of the analysis, which may include alternate ways to meet the purpose and need of the project. Comments are due by April 9th.
