Moose Count Breeds Optimism

mooses

(JACKSON, Wyo)  A recent count of moose in the Jackson Hole area has biologists here cautiously optimistic about an apparent recovery taking place in the population.  Volunteers had joined biologists from Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest and the National Elk Refuge late last month to count moose in the region in an effort called “Nature Mapping Jackson Hole.”  Altogether, 275 moose were counted in the valley which was an increase of about 40 animals from last year.  Biologists also say that it appears that moose habitat is in good shape now. The observations and statistics can now be used to guide wildlife management decisions and planning efforts involving the moose population in Teton County.

An e-mail I got the other day highlighted some of the things an anonymous mother from Texas learned from her kids. Things like, “If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor isn’t strong enough to rotate a 42-pound boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, […]
  • Shoot some skeet if you’re feeling like a crack shot - July 18, 2014
I shot at a lot of clay pigeons when I was a kid, but I never did it at an organized trap or skeet club. And I’ve shot at a lot of birds, both upland and waterfowl. I may not have been born with a shotgun in my hand, but I picked one up not […]
