Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies, Search and Rescue, and Air Idaho Rescue Saturday recovered the body of a Victor man who was buried in an avalanche Friday. According to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s office, 46-year-old Robert Kincaid of Victor Idaho was with a party of approximately ten riders in the Austin Canyon area near Palisades Reservoir, when the avalanche was triggered, totally burying Kincaid. While one rider went to call for help, others in the party immediately began probing and searching for Kincaid with the assistance of 6 other riders who arrived to the area. After approximately 2 1/2 hours of searching, Kincaid was located and despite first aid efforts, could not be resuscitated. It was determined that Kincaid was wearing an avalanche beacon but it was not activated at the time of the avalanche. Sheriff’s officials say it is unclear why the beacon was not operating at the time of the avalanche. Also on Friday, a skier in Hoback Canyon, unintentionally triggered a small slab avalanche and was carried several hundred feet, but escaped with his life.
