The woman who died on Monday in a fall on the Grand Teton has been identified. 43-year-old Mary Bilyeu, of Edmond, Oklahoma, was ascending to the Upper Saddle of the Grand Teton with a climbing partner and a guide at an elevation of about 13,000 feet when she fell. Nearby rangers responded but Bilyeu was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is being investigated by park officials who remind backcountry hikers that late season snow remains in the high country and hikers should use caution.
