Calamity Road Reopens
The Closure Order of the Calamity Road and immediate slide area on the northern end of Palisades Reservoir, in place since the end of April, has been terminated now. Access across the Palisades dam is allowed beginning today. The area, known as the Calamity Landslide, is a large active landslide located between the dam spillway and Calamity Boat Launch. That slide encompasses over 13 acres on the south flank of Calamity Point including the Calamity Guard Station and approximately 1,000 lineal feet of the Snake River/Calamity Road. This section of the Snake River/Calamity Road over the Palisades Dam provides key public access to summer homes, campgrounds, trailheads, and boat ramps. This spring the slide moved significantly, requiring road and area closure until Bonneville County, Idaho and the Forest Service could verify the slide had stopped and repair the road.
