Police Search for Evidence and Shooter

jacksonpolice

The search continues for an alleged gunman who shot and injured a young Jackson man yesterday afternoon near his home in the Cottonwood Park Subdivision. Officers returned to the area today to look for more clues.
Police made a public announcement that they would be in the area again to search for evidence but wanted residents to know that the police presence was not a sign of danger in the area.

Police are now identifying the victim as 19-year-old Chancy Shaffer. Police Chief Todd Smith says the shooting was reported shortly before 1:30 pm as the father of the victim was driving him to the hospital for treatment. Smith says police responded to both the hospital and the residence – checking the residence for any other possible victims and determining where the shooting took place.

Today Smith says police are trying to determine the identity of the attacker through leads generated by the investigation and tips the police have received from the public. The attacker was described as being fairly young and wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie, and a bandana over his face. Smith says at this point, investigations lead police to believe the shooting was not random.
