Fire Danger Declared Moderate
Teton Interagency Fire managers yesterday raised the fire danger rating to moderate. Along with a moderate fire danger, fires in open-cured grassland will burn briskly and spread rapidly on windy days while forest fires can spread slowly to moderately fast. Even though most areas still appear green, says Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek, unattended or abandoned campfires can easily escalate into wildfires. As such, she says it is important that all campfires are completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving a site. To date there have been 26 abandoned or unattended campfires discovered on the Forest.
