Unemployment in Teton County Jumps
Reports from the Wyoming Department of Employment show unemployment rate in Teton County is 8.7% as jobs dropped by -3.5% . Total payroll decreased by $9.4 million. By far, the largest job losses in the county were in the construction industry.
Employment increased in accommodation & food services — nearly 200 jobs during the period. Statewide, total payroll increased in 17 of the state’s 23 counties. …and, although employment, payroll, and average weekly wage all grew at rates substantially lower than their five-year averages, they exhibited much higher growth than in the second quarter of 2009. Total payroll is an important economic indicator because it is often associated with consumer spending, retail sales, and sales tax revenue. Currently, the unemployment rate in Teton County is 8.7% compared with a current statewide average of 6.4%.
