Visitation to Yellowstone National Park during August fell short of the numbers seen in August of 2010, but still amounted to the second highest monthly visitation in the park’s history.  According to the National Park Service Public Use Statistics Office, 805,173 recreational visitors were recorded through the entrance stations of the park bring the total for the summer months to over 2-million-346-thousand or about 161-thousand visitors shy of last year’s total for the three summer months.  However, park officials quickly point out that 2010 was considered a banner year for visitation.  Meanwhile, Grand Teton National Park reports about a 5% decline in visitation during August from the same month a year ago and a 3% decline in visitation year-to-date.
