As daily temperatures hint of the colder season ahead, Jackson Fire/EMS urges residents to check their heating appliances and furnaces to be sure they are safe to operate in the season ahead.  Fire Inspector Kathy Clay says one of the key things to be sure is that the venting of the appliance is clear.  Clay warns that sometimes vents can become blocked over the summer months, allowing a home to fill with carbon monoxide which is a deadly, colorless, odorless gas.  Clay says it is actually a good idea to have any fuel-burning appliance professionally checked and serviced on a regular basis.
