A human-caused fire discovered on Thursday, 35 miles west of Pinedale in the Big Piney Rangers District, has grown from 41 acres to 135 acres, according to Bridger Teton public relations officer Mary Cernicek. More than 40 fire officials are now on scene attending to the fire. No closures have been announced at this time.
National Forest officials would like to remind campers and day-users that unattended or abandoned campfires can directly result in wildfires. It’s imperative, officials say, that you ensure warming and cooking fires are completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving a site.
