Grizzly Population Stabilizes
While the number of grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is growing by only 4-percent now, scientists say the population has pretty much reached the level the area can support. Researchers say the number of grizzlies in and around Yellowstone National Park dropped slightly this year indicating the region’s bear population could be leveling off after decades of recovery. Currently, an estimated 593 bears are roaming the 19-thousand square mile region – down from 602 bears last year.
