Traffic was blocked along US 26 near Elk Creek Turnoff adjacent Palisades Reservoir Friday after a gasoline tanker trailer overturned and caught fire.  According to the Idaho State Police, 32-year-old Jarin Smith of Blackfoot, was traveling eastbound in a Kenworth tanker semi pulling a pup trailer loaded with fuel. Smith crossed the center line hitting the guardrail in the opposite lane of travel. This caused the pup trailer to overturn onto the guardrail, puncturing the pup trailer and setting fire to the fuel being transported. Smith was able to disconnect the pup trailer from his tanker and pull away preventing it from also becoming involved.  Police say Smith was not injured in the crash, but the roadway was blocked for approximately five hours.  Smith was cited for failing to maintain his lane of travel. Idaho State Police were assisted on scene by Bonneville County Sherriff’s Office, Swan Valley Fire and EMS, Idaho Department of  transportation, and Bureau of Reclamation.
